I’m just curious how good these front wheel electric hubs are. I’m kind of tempted to buy one after I fix my bike’s brakes.

I’ve never driven one, but if I learnt anything in my youth is that if you’re gonna lay down power to the ground, you want rear wheel drive .

Just don’t. I know a few tech people who cycle seriously that gave a few of these devices a try. Even coming into it knowing the flaws in the design, basically tackling it for fun, it fell flat.
If you really want a bike with assistance that is well integrated and balanced. T ry finding someone who lost their initial luster for the expensive e-bike they purchased and decided to sell off before the battery suffered from discharge and disuse. In every way this will work better.

I keep thinking about it. The front hubs are pretty good. Are you on reddit? Follow /r/ebikes !
They all seem really expensive, but an e-bike is exactly what I need to ride my bike to work.

When I was seriously considering an electric assist, my research led me to the StokeMonkey. It’s a mid-mounted motor that provides pedal assist . When you hit the throttle, the pedals start turning, so you better be prepared to start moving with them .
I’ve read that the other top competitor is the rear-hub mounted BionX, but I haven’t spent any time researching them. The advantages I see are rear-wheel drive and having the weight at the back instead of on the front wheel. I don’t like extra weight up front because it makes hopping curbs a lot harder.
Someone did a nice comparison by riding them back-to-back with a load (kids on board). Same person has reviewed other systems as well. Give it a read: https://humofthecity.com/2014/06/10/we-tried-it-bionx-v-stokemonkey/
